DVOŘÁK STABAT MATER

May 27, 2016

Program and Description

Antonin Dvořák is perhaps most famous for his New World Symphony and Slavic Dances, but it is his Stabat Mater that launched his international fame and introduced the Slavic composer to the United States. The rest, as they say, is musical history.

Dvořák wrote the Stabat Mater, one of his most beautiful creations, at a time of great personal grief. Yet, the work embodies the journey out of mourning toward hopefulness. If you've ever persevered in the face of great personal loss, you will no doubt find deep personal connection with this performance.

This rarely performed and deeply moving work is simply exquisite—a “must-hear” of the 2016 season. The May Festival Chorus is joined on stage by the world-class Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
