MENDELSSOHN: A Midsummer Night’s Dream
We launch the Dream Project with Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (containing the famous Wedding March)—in a rare moment to hear the gorgeous incidental music performed in its entirety. In this re-imagining of the May Festival experience, actors, spoken word, and visual enhancements complement and enhance the drama of Shakespeare’s play as it blooms through and between the music.
About A Midsummer Night's Dream:
Shakespeare's most popular comedy, Midsummer is a story of magic gone haywire, on-again-off-again weddings, and Cupid's clumsy arrow. Trouble begins when four young lovers become lost in an enchanted forest. A love quadrangle forms as the mischievous fairy Puck makes the wrong couples fall in love. Meanwhile, a group of rehearsing actors is caught in the crossfire in a wager between the King and Queen of the Fairies.
Enjoy special music provided by harpist Jackie Davis in the lobby before the concert and during intermission.
Visit the featured lobby bar to try our enchanted cocktails, Eveningbriar and Choral Bouquet, designed by Watershed Distillery.
This forward-looking season brings together world-acclaimed guest artists and the Festival’s first-ever Creative Partner, Gerard McBurney, to curate the atmospheric Dream Project. The result is a joyful and imaginative celebration of shared music-making that builds on Cincinnati’s amazing singing tradition.
