2009 Grand Finale Concert an Unforgettable Experience

CINCINNATI, OHIO - James Conlon, Music Director of the Cincinnati May Festival, received congratulatory greetings from Ohio Governor Ted Strickland on May 30th in celebration of Maestro Conlon’s 30th anniversary year as Music Director of the Festival. A capacity crowd of over 3400 people filled Cincinnati’s historic Music Hall that evening to hear Gustav Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand, performed by over 500 artists comprised of the May Festival Chorus, Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, the Cincinnati Children’s Choir, eight stellar guest soloists, and an expanded Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

May Festival officials announced that, despite the current economic climate, the 2009 Season witnessed record financial sponsorships by individuals, corporations and foundations, and exceeded its financial goals for ticket and subscription sales.

Along with his distinguished position in Cincinnati, Mr. Conlon is also Music Director of the LA Opera in Los Angeles and the Ravinia Festival in Chicago. The Grammy winning conductor maintains a demanding work schedule conducting major opera performances throughout the world.
